Tech Notes

Two Broadcasts on One ISDN Line

You will need:

  1. A Comrex DXR.1, DXP.1 Envoy,Nexus or Matrix with ISDN Module codec.
  2. An Adtran 2x64 terminal adapter.
  3. A specially modified "Y" cable (see description below)
  4. Compatible codecs and terminal equipment at the two remote locations

The Comrex codec must be wired with the straight-through 25 pin cable to one of the ports on the Adtran 2x64 TA. The cable must be modified to "tap" two leads off the cable without breaking the original connection. These pins are pin 2 (TXDA) and 14 (TXDB). These "taps" must be connected to pins 2 and 14 respectively on another female 25 pin D connector. This connector will go to the other data port on the Adtran 2x64.

Operation:

Place an ISDN data call at 56 or 64 KB/s from the port with the "complete" cable connected. You will be able to communicate with this site in both directions. Now, if you place a call from the other port, (the one with only the TX connections), the far end should also receive valid codec data, although they will not be able to send any audio to you. Both calls must be placed at the same data rate.
